To many young people, the original Napster represented one of the greatest inventions in the history of the recording industry. the original Napster was seen this way because the original Napster positioned itself on the side of the common consumer. And so The closing of the original Napster was perceived as an episode of the original Napster and the music loving public verses the music industry and the government of the United State.
