| | In the Spotlight: The Internet The Internet is still, and will remain for a long time, the most effective medium of communication in almost every aspect of the human condition.
Used correctly: - Internet Marketing is by far, the most powerful form of marketing ever invented.
- Internet shopping is hands down, the world's most convenient, informed, self-empowering and autonomous form of shopping.
- The Internet is, by far, the safest, most powerful, fastest, most reliable, efficient and effective vehicle for transmitting and receiving mass information of every conceivable nature.
Like all other media, the Internet has its strengths and weaknesses. Among the most common complaints about the Internet, as I interpret them, are these: - Internet Marketing is nothing but hype. There are no secrets about marketing online. How can ideas be secret when one is selling or revealing such so-called secrets to all who are willing to find out the information?
- The Internet is not a golden parachute to business success but a cyber mountain of broken dreams, littered with the ruins of once promising Dotcoms companies and pipe dreaming wanna-be millionaires: financial dreamers who risked everything in buying into the greed driven, get-rich-quick schemes of Internet con artists and slick manipulators.
- Internet shopping is not safe. It is foolish to give one's personal information over the Internet; to people and companies that one doesn’t know. And what if these sellers are genuine but are unable to fulfil their offers because of bankruptcies, business failures, financial ruins or change of focus?
- The Internet is an open invitation to hackers and other malicious intruders. The flow of information on the Internet is not safe. Furthermore, finding information online is like "looking for a needle in a haystack." It can be more time consuming than one is led to believe from the hype.
Can you relate to these complaints or concerns? If so, you are not alone. There are millions who share your concerns and I'm no exception. This is why I qualify my initial assertion with the phrase, "used correctly." Yes, the Internet remains the most effective medium of communication in almost every aspect of the human condition but for this statement to be true, the Internet must be used correctly.
