YOUR MAY NOT AGREE WITH MY CHOICES. IN ALMOST EVERY CASE, SOMEONE IS GOING TO THINK THAT THEIR FAVOURITE DJ SHOULD BE ON TOP OF THE LIST, OR AT LEAST BETTER POSITIONED. BUT RESERVE JUDGEMENT FOR A WHILE. CONSIDER THE RATIONALE FOR THESE SELECTIONS

Who should be on the list of Top 12 Dancehall Djs of the Century and in what order?

In arriving with the list above, my first priority was to chunk this monumental task into manageable criteria.

I believe that our choices must reflect those artists that had the most significant impacts in the areas outlined below. This is not necessary the best approach, but because the choices are so numerous, it is necessary to use this exclusion or elimination method to arrive at the list above. Perhaps the most difficult task is to measure the impacts of each artist in the areas below; and to rank them accordingly. If we follow the naive and shallow approach used by some people, we would simply relegate this task to the likes of a popularity contest and use sales volumes as a subrogate in determining rankings. There are many reasons why one cannot rely on sales volume alone. First and foremost, sales is a Marketing Management function and sometimes this has nothing to do with the quality of the product. In many cases, it is the establishment of effective distribution channels, good sales promotion and perceived price-quality as reflected in word-picture that sell. It would be wrong to discard an artist superior work on the basis of poor sales management and vice versa.

On an irresistible sidetrack -this is precisely why I can't agree with some people's choice of Elvis Presley as "Artist of the Century". His popularity alone does not warrant such title at the expense of a Bob Dylan (whose lyrics is his own! -and beyond compare), or a Jimi Hendrix (whose Guitar sounding change the direction of Rock and Roll).

With this underpinning, I present my ranking criteria:

Criteria.:The Artist Impact and or contribution to:

Of courses, the major draw back with this approach is that the process is highly subjective and is by no means scientific. I do not believe, however, that the task accurately lends itself to any known scientific modelling techniques. We could try regression analysis or time series analysis but I do not think the impact of any one artist is significant enough to establish a meaningful coefficient of variation or value for any particular artist-variable metric cell other than artist individual sales volume. Accordingly, I' have applied a simple non parametric ranking approach to each variable as follows:
