The closing of the original Napster was one of the
most detrimental events in the history of the music industry.
Interesting viewpoint, isn’t it?
Many people in the recording industry and United
States Government may not agree with this statement but such contentions
do not diminish the fact that it is true. Recent statistic confirm that the
music industry has lost more money to free music downloads now than when
the original Napster was in operation.
This happened for three reasons:

the leakage of revenue resulting from free downloads but instead open the flood
gate for other operators to take its place with music downloads at even more
rapid pace. Ø
By closing down the original Napster, the music
industry and government overlooked the most fundamental principle of modern
marketing: to find a niche, a need or want then satisfy it profitably. That is
to say, the government and the industry failed to give music lovers what they
want so that they can get what they want: music entertainment in exchange for
revenue. Because the original Napster did this, (at the expense of the music industry)
people loved the original Napster. To many young people, the original Napster represented one of the
greatest inventions in the history of the recording industry. the original Napster was seen
this way because the original Napster positioned itself on the side of the common
consumer. And so The closing of the original Napster
was perceived as an episode of the original Napster and the music loving public verses the
music industry and the government of the United State.
